Leslie Breeze
Owner & Coach
Owner & Coach
Leslie Breeze- Owner. Leslie’s “Dream Gym,” opened in 2003 near the San Luis Obispo airport. Then in 2008, Performance Athletics moved to its brand-new state-of-the-art facility at 4484
Broad Street, and is now home to Tumble Bug and to more than 400 young athletes and young at heart from around San Luis Obispo County.
It’s been a long journey since that day in 1976 when, as a young child, Leslie sat, transfixed,
watching on TV as Nadia Comaneci became the first gymnast to score a perfect 10.0 in the Olympic Games. That day, Performance Athletics’ Owner, Leslie Breeze, began her gymnastics career. Leslie’s first team experience was with the Santa Barbara Girl’s Club and Coach Julie Eagan. While Leslie enjoyed all events, she especially loved floor. And once she learned to walk on her hands, she would be seen at the Santa Barbara’s Mission Park or beach walking along upside down! Walking in handstands became young Leslie’s common mode of transportation. When her family moved to Sonora, Leslie migrated from Artistic Gymnastics to Sports Acrobatics, and medaled 2nd and 3rd with her Trio and Women’s Pair in Sports Acrobatics National Championships in Sacramento, California and in Winter Haven, Florida.
At age 14, Leslie began to junior coach for Go-For-It Gymnastics, now American Sports Acro and Gymnastics. It was then that she began to think about a career in gymnastics coaching and to envision her “Dream Gym.” For the next two decades, Leslie would coach at various gymnastics schools in Southern and Central California. Then, in 2003, she opened her own facility on Aerovista Place in San Luis Obispo, California. Meanwhile she worked with colleagues and architects to make her current Broad Street location “Dream Gym” come true.
Current Governance Participation: Leslie is an active participant in USA Gymnastics, Nor-Cal Women’s Gymnastics Association, Nor-Cal Boys Gymnastics Association, National Gymnastics Association, National Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges, YMCA National Fitness and International Ballet Barre Fitness Association. Most memorable moments as coach: “I get emotional every year at the State Championships Senior Awards Presentation, especially as I watch the Senior Videos. These moments are always magical and highlight the years of hard work and dedication on the part of the gymnasts, their parents and their coaches.
Leslie is experienced in coaching all levels of gymnastics, and has had athletes attend Western Nationals. Most rewarding moments: Leslie is always proud that her athletes reach- and medal – in State, Regional and National level Championships. But it goes far beyond that, the most rewarding moments are watching the young gymnasts evolve into happy healthy young adults, with confidence and proud to be who they are. Most gratifying is knowing that our time together in the gym contributes in a positive way to give them the tools they need through out all the adventures life will bring.
Favorite food: Veggies, Dark chocolate & Coffee!
Favorite animal: Leslie loves all animals!
